Show DEBATING CLUB IS ORGANIZED AT HIGH Officers Elected at Moeting Held Yesterday, Yes-terday, With Chostor Snow as President. Aftor a long discussion at yesterday's meeting for all studonts of tho SolL Lake high school who are Interested In debating, debat-ing, it wns decided to form a club which will bo called tho Salt Lako High School Debating club. Many students wanted a class formed which would be held during dur-ing tho regular school hours. Thlu was votod down. Ira D. Travis, head of the history department de-partment of the school, has boon active In forming this club. He will bo In chargo of the debaters. Mr. Travis gave a short talk, in which ho emphasized tho Importance Impor-tance of tho debating work. He also urged as many students as could do so to Join. Mies Ella M. Dukes, head of the English department of the school, gave an interesting inter-esting talk and told of many incidents In her recent trip to the east to visit the schools. An election of officers of tho club was held and Chester Snow was elected president; Kenneth Yeates was chosen vice president, and Miss Dorothy Jcnkln-son Jcnkln-son was elected secretary. It is not necessary nec-essary to have a treasurer, as no dues are paid. A comrnlttoc of three to draw up the club's constitution and by-laws was chosen, -with Mr. Travis n3 chairman: Frank Shepherd and George Bowerman are tho others on the committee The next meeting will be held next Tuesday during the sixth period If Principal Princi-pal George A. Eaton gives his consent. |
