Announcement of the annual oratorical contest for representatives representa-tives of tho Ogden high school and Weber academy was made by Superintendent John M. Mills today In the form of Information In-formation to the effect thnt Dr. ISdward J. Hlch hats offered a cash prize of $50 for this year's contest. Detailed arrangements ar-rangements for tho contest will be mario when representatives of the two faculties will moot with Dr. ltlbh in Superintendent Superin-tendent Willis's office tomorrow afternoon. after-noon. Tho competition for tho Dr. Itlch prize will be tho third annual oratorical contest con-test for tho two local schools. The annual an-nual contest, which was Inaugurated by Percy la. Goddard two years ago, has caused a great amount of enthusiasm In the schools and attracted much public Intorest. The authorities of tho academy and high school, realizing the Importance of oratory and public speaking In the curriculum of the nchools, have been enthusiastic en-thusiastic supporters of tho annual contest con-test plan. Jcaso Ilolthcr, a student of the high school, was tho winner of the diamond pin offered by Mr. Goddard In tho inltiul contest two years ago. Last year Miss Iva Steers, a student of the Weber academy, who was the only young lady In tho contest and who compotcd against Heveral boys of both Hchools. won tho sll- i ver cup offered by E. A. T-arkln. It la expected that tho final contest for the cash prize offered by Dr. Hlch will tako placo In April of next year. It is necessary neces-sary to hold elimination contests In both schools prior to tho final competition. |
