Show WORKMEN ON WALKER BUILDING ON STRIKE The entire working force nt the Walker skyscraper, northeast comer of Main and Second South streets, went on strike j'esterday morning as a result, of a controversy between the contractors contrac-tors and union painters as to whether the lumber for the inside furnishings should be painted in the east before being be-ing installed in the building. Tho .lames Stewart company, according accord-ing to information gained yesterdav, contracted with the Sierra' Novada Milling company for tho lumber, and the milling company has been providing the lumber already painted. This worli. it is declared, has been done in the cast, and local painters on tho iob held that tho painting should be done by union men exclusively and by painters employed on the building, according to word given out at the labor temple. Thn Building Trades council colled a strike of the entire force. At the office of General Manager H. W. Bauu and Superintendent F. L. Rice, it was learned that no decision in the matter had been renched last night. |
