Show IEN CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED HOLDUP Stranger in City Says Money Was Being Taken From Him. Following an alleged attempted holdup hold-up in the Gus Ling saloou nt 59 East Second South street, James Dugan and 1?, 0. Atkins were arrestod last night by Patrolman J. A. Egbert. Albert Johnson, a stranger in the city, was sitting in the rear of tho saloon, whon the two men entered and demanded de-manded that he give them all his monoy. Johnson refused, he says, and tho meu started to take it away from him. IIo attempted to call for help, but received re-ceived a smart slap on the chock. The men then took hold of hi in, he says, and started to go through his pockets. When ho resisted, ho was rowarded with severe blows on tho head until ho told tho men that he would givo them what he bad if they would only atop tormenting tor-menting him. When the officer arrived, Johnson had his money in bis hand and was iu tbe act of ha.ndiug it to tho men. Johnson said that he did not. know the men, but as he did not have much money, he thought it would bo better to give It to them than have them abuse him as they wore doing. |
