Show ADDRESS DELIVERED BY MATH ONI HAH THOMAS The history department of the Salt Lake hlfjh school enjoyed a rare treat Friday morning In an address by Mr. Thomas of the board of education. The subject of Mr. Thomas's talk was Irrigation. Irri-gation. He traced the history of irrigation irri-gation from the days of the ancient Babylonians and Egyptlana to the present time. Tt was shown that the Chaldeans and Babylonians had highly developed systems regulated and protected by comprehensive com-prehensive laws. Roman law likewise gave much attention atten-tion to defining and protecting water rights. TliJ use of Irrigation on this continent antedates recorded history. The remaia2 of Irrigating systems shows that the art was highly developed by prehistoric races ln both North and South America. The first Anglo-Saxons to make use of Irrigation were the Mormon fathers in the Salt Lake valley. |
