Tho Mason Townsite company owns the laud along Walker river at Mason, on cither side, for a distanco of a milo and about a quartor of a milo back. It is planned on tho cast side to cut the land into half -acre lots, 104 by 208 feet, and sell to those who desiro to have productive gardens along with their homes. On the oast side of tho river is situated Townsite farm. It is ono of the attractive spots of tho valley. val-ley. As a farm it is complete, well situated, has numerous substantial buildings, including ranch homo, barns, blacksmith shop, abattoir and chickon-houses. chickon-houses. Along with cattle and horses, something like 300 hogs are being raised for market. Particular attention, however, how-ever, is being given to the poultry, Mrs. Leadbetter is in charge of this department, depart-ment, and takes particular delight in her work. She is operating a number of Petaluma incubators and brooders, and so far with great success. She says the chickens do excontionally well, better bet-ter than she ever found them in California, Cali-fornia, and that the hens have a habit of laying the year round. As a side issuo. Mrs. Leadbetter is cultivating mushrooms, and hopes shortly to be a.ble to supply tho Reno markets. Recreation Spots. Aside from its practical value. Town-site Town-site . farm has an artistic side. It lronts on the Walker river, though between the farmhouse and river there is a lake some hundred feet or more in width and nearly a milo in length. The plnco abounds with Irees, and in tho summer time they aro fairly alive with birds, avIiopc mingled songs bring charm to tho nature lover. Here it is planned soon io erect a handsome ranch home in the nature of a coun try club, which will be occupied by the officials of the railroad and mines. The whole place will bo planned with tho view of making it n most desirable place for recrention and outing, for it is planned to entertain here some of the biggest copper men in the world. One needs go but a fow feet from the sito of tho now homo to enjoy boating boat-ing on tho lake, to enjoi' the pleasant recreation spots, or to the river's edge to enjoy tho good fishing, for the river is -well stocked with trout and cat fish. The plans call for the turning of the presont farm into a model countrv club within two years. |
