The town is supplied with an abundance of pure water, which is distributed b- a complete com-plete water system; it is also equipped with a first-class lighting system. It has an elegant and modern hotel, constructed con-structed at a cost of more than $3(1,-000, $3(1,-000, and in convenience and arrangements arrange-ments is not excelled by any in the state Has a Newspaper. "Mason has an up-to-date lumber yard, which carries a complete line of building material, builders' hardware, cement and other accessories. It also has a well equipped livery stable, which operates a stage line' 10 Wellington, Well-ington, in Smith valley, twenty miles distant. Tho town boasts of a modern printing plant, which publishes a week-ly week-ly paper. This plant is equipped with the latest improved machinery and is equal in every respect to plants of most cities. "All in all, the town is fairly well represented with business house's, but there is room for manv more. The Nevada Ne-vada Copper Belt Eaflroud company is now building its shops, roundhouses, depots de-pots and making extensive plans for fu-turo fu-turo improvements in Mason, where it will locate its general offices and center cen-ter all its operations. Farm Opportunities. "Wonderful opportunities await tho man who seeks to till the fortilo soils of Mason vallej'. Tho valley is thirty milealong by an average olf five miles in width. Tho entire area is composed of tho highest qunlit' of agricultural land, with sufficient water to irrigate a largo portion of it. Exccllont facilities facil-ities await the advent of capital and enterprise to develop more than enough water to irrigate the now unwaterod portion of the valley." Many Rich Valleys. "To the southwest of Mason valley and connected by what is known as Wilson pass, through which tho Nc-vuda Nc-vuda Copper Bolt railroad is uow building, is Smith valley. This valley is not so large as Mason valley, but it is very rich in agriculture and contains con-tains many beautiful farms. Opening off froni Smith valley are Antelope and Bridgeport valleys, which, though smaller in area, contain very rich soil. Thousands of acres of land in all of these valleys aro yet covered with sagebrush and only 'await the incoming of the thrifty farmer to reclaim them. Mines Important. "Not least in importance aro the mines which lie back of Mason. Among these is tho Bluestoue mine, controlled by Oapt. J. R. DcLamar. It lies about one and a half miles duo west of Mason Ma-son and is connected with Hie town, as are all the other mines, with good wagon wa-gon roads. This property has upward of two and a half millions of tons of copper ore blocked out and awaiting smelting facilities. This ore will average aver-age close to 3 per cent copper, with small gold and silver values. "To tho south of tho Bluestoue are located tho great Mason Valley minos, .which havo approximately two million 'tons of ore blocked out 'and awaiting extraction. To the east of the Mc-tonncll Mc-tonncll is the Western Nevada mine, which is controlled by Samuel New-house New-house and associates, of Utah. This property is well equipped with all necessary nec-essary machinery and ha a largo showing of commercial grade oro developed. de-veloped. The Nevada Douglas. ."To the west of Mnson about four inilcs will be found tho groat Nevada uouglas-Ludwig conner mines. These properties are extensively developed nuu upwards of one million tons of copper ore, averaging close to 5 per cent copper, have been blocked out. This company also has wist deposits of the purest gypsum to bo found anywhere in the west and which will be worked extensively as soon ns tho railroad reaches there. "To tho east of Mason is Iho East Side district, comprising several proven mines of worth', such as tlic Ycrington Copper, Blue Jay, Northern Liodit and many others of less prominence. To tho south of Mason is what; is known as tho East Walker district, in which arc located many gold properties now attracting at-tracting a crcat deal of attention. No less Jhau half a dozen of theso proper-tics proper-tics arc now being opened and good bodies of high-grade milling ores havo been developed. Still farther south arc Pine Grove, which produced upwards of five million dollars in tho past; Bodie, with which all are familiar, Aurora aud Masonic. Mineral-Bearing Zono. "The mineral-bearing zone of the Mason mining district is known to be twelve miles in length and extends as far north as the Wabuska copper mino. Probably nowhere in any known mining min-ing sections have such results been obtained ob-tained with the same amount of development devel-opment work as in this district. This will be realized more fully when it is taken into accouut that wherever auy amount of actual development work has been prosecuted, large bodies of ore of a commercial grado have been found to exist." Concerning tho smelter in course of construction, Mr Kidder pointed out that it is located near Wabuska, liftcon miles from Mason, a sufficient distance away so that its operation will not interfere with the agricultural interests inter-ests of tho valley. The smelter will havo a capacity of 1000 tons a day, and it is figured that when the railroad rail-road is completed, that two mines tho Nevada Douglas and tho Mason Valley which have been the main ones figured on in connection with tho erection of tho smelter, will bo able to supply tho required tonnage to keep the smelter running to capacity. Additional Ad-ditional units will necessarily have to be added from timo to time in order to take care of increased tonnages from other properties. |
