That' thieves have been at work in the United States capltol Is tho startling discovery made today, according to a hurry-up call sent to the flcrgcant-at-arms in the senate. An attompt to keep the matter secret was made, but enough was learned to indicate indi-cate plain robbery in the rooms of the postofflces and post roads committee, of which Senator Penrose Is chairman. Three massive silver flower vases, twenty-six Inches high, are missing They were presented to Senator Peni-osc on his recovery from a severe Illness three years ago and havo been kept filled with choice flowers. The Penrose rooms arc on the ground floor of the senate wing of the capltol. but have snap-lock doors and grated windows. Hence Is believed that Scr-gcant-at-Arms Randall may get some clew to the mystery If his capltol sleuths got a good staart. |
