Xo, 6 is not the .finest station in the city, but it is just as complete in its way as any of the others, and its opening is regarded most favorably by tho people peo-ple of the neighborhood, who welcome it as an advance in tho progress of their section and a factor in increased properly valuation, as well as the protection pro-tection it affords. Chief Glore was on hand to install the department, nnd the men wcro busily engaged all day in fitting up their future home. The building is a two-story brick structure, the facade being covered with cement. It lias room for a hose wngon, two horses and five men. The electrical appliances and other features will be on a par with the general forms of the efficient department and will include the sliding pole from the dormitory nnd telephone and electrical alarm systems. Tho station stands on a lot 40x135 feet at the corner of Eighth South and Post streets. Tho tcrritor- covered by the station extends south and west to the city limits and cast on Ninth South to West Temple. It also takes in the extensive shops of tho Gould system, so the territory is large enough, the only wonder being that the No. 2 station sta-tion could havo covered it in tho past. At the rear of tho station is a shed for storage purposes. On tho second floor there is a private room for the captain, cap-tain, the dormitory for the men, the kitchen and locker room and a modern bathroom. A feature of the bath is a niucty-sbc-gallon tank connected with a small heater, so hot water will ever be in readiness, a most important factor fac-tor in the comfort of the 'men who will make the place their home. Temporarily in charge Tuesday was Lieutenant Ot-tinger, Ot-tinger, with W. E. Williams as drivor and A. Foster as pipoman, but today the station will be fully organized, with Captain A. E. Williams assuming com-mnnd. com-mnnd. The hoso wagon and equipment will bo placed in first-class shape during dur-ing the next few days and by the end of the week it, is predicted that the station will be in position to handle its part of the business of the department, depart-ment, in a thoroughly efficient manner. |
