Show YOUNG ROCKEFELLER OUT OF THE BIG STEEL TRUST NEW YORK, March 1. Announcement was made today that John D. Rockefeller, Jr., hud resigned as director of the United States Steel corporation and had been succeeded by Henry Walters of Baltimore, Balti-more, chairman of directors of tho Louisville Louis-ville Sz Nashville and the A.lantlc Coast Line railroads. Mr. Waltors Is a close personal friend of J. P. Morgan. According lo common belief, the Rockefeller Rocke-feller holdings of United Slates Steel were at one time very large, so largo, In fact, as to make them a fnctor In the affairs of the corporation. It s denied, however, that Mr. Rockefeller s resignation was due to friction or difference dif-ference of opinion with tho Morgan Interests. In-terests. A statement Issued by Elbert II Garv, chairman of the United States Steel corporation, explains the change us follows. "Mr. Rockefeller states that the, only reason for his resignation Is that the holding of stocks in the company by the members of his fnmlly Is not sufficiently large to justify his giving any time or attention to tho affairs of tho corporation." |
