Show PIERGE-ABROW CARS 11 JEK BUILT Models for 1911 Are to Be Noted for Almost Absolute Silence. The local arjentB for the Fierce-Arrow, tho Tom Bottorill Automobile company, have just roceived complete details of the 1911 models of tho Pierce-Arrow. With a scarcely noticeable cessation in its manufacturing routine tho Pierce-Arrow Pierce-Arrow Motor Car company of Buffalo, finished its shipment of 1010 cars in Juno and began the turning out of its new modelB- PollowinR its policy of last 3'oar tho Pierce-Arrow company will manufacture six-cylinder cars only. Sixty-six horsepower cars havo been given precedence in tho order of manufacture of the various models, and a number of these arc already in tho hands of owners. The 48 and 36 horsepower models mod-els will follow the larger cars in their course through the factory. Out Out Noi$e. The 48 horsepower car will have a motor with 4 boro and 5 stroke, tho 36 horsepower will have a motor of 4-inch bore and ois-iuch stroke. This is another Btep towards absolute silence, and without doubt the new Pierce models mod-els will be noted for their noisclessncss. On the large Pierce-Arrow model previous pre-vious to the ono now being manufactured manufac-tured six different bodies were mounted. On tho new model there are eight. The styles and their seating capacity are: Runabout, 3; miniature tonneau, 4; protected pro-tected touring, 5; close coupled, 5; touring tour-ing car, 7; suburban, 7; landcau, 7; tour-ing tour-ing landeau, 7. The close coupled car is a comparative new comer in the Pierce-Arrow fold, while the protected touring car and touring landcau aro new the first model of the latter having bcOn shown at Madison .Square Garden in January. The protected touring car is one with flush doors both front and rear. Tho wheelbaso is comparatively short for the power of the car, and in effect is, a modified type of the so-called "gunboat" "gun-boat" car which has sprung into popularity popu-larity abroad. Mechanical Refinements. Mechanical refinements havo been many. Those on tho motor, which has a bore of 4tyi inches and a stroke of 5h, are principally steps toward absolute abso-lute noiselessness, while those of the transmission aid in the quality of facilitating facil-itating gear changes at very low speeds. A trend of the times is shown in the clearance from the running boards of accessories. On one sido of the car only the spare tires arc to be seen, and on the other the battery box, which has been enlarged sufficiently to carry small supplies. The standard equipmont of its cars by the Pierce-Arrow company has always al-ways beon regarded as Tomarkably complete, com-plete, but for the new models it will bo even moro comprehensive than before. Cape tops and glass fronts are provided on all models, and a .partial list of the other stock equipment includes a power driven pump for tires, shock absorbers, two Pierce-Arrow designed head lamps, electric or oil side and rear lamps, an electric lamp for illuminating tho number. num-ber. Prest-O-Lite tank, carried in a special compartment, a gasoline priming pump and fuel gauge on tho dash, and a luggage rack in rear. The new cars will commence to arrive during August and the Botterill company com-pany niinouncos that it has already orders or-ders for over 25 per ceut of its 1011 allotment. |
