Show CHEAPER TO BOARD THAN" KEEP HOUSE IN CHICAGO CHICAGO. April 26. Families of Chicago Chi-cago In jreater numbers than ever before be-fore are storing their furniture and going go-ing to live In boarding houses or in tho country, according to1 managers of storage stor-age and van companies. They assign this condition of affairs to tho increased cost of living. M. A. Carroll, president of a large storage and Van company, said yesterday: yester-day: "Tho striking aspecL of our business at present Is tho amount of household goods In storage. This has been our biggest year In that respect. "I know the reason for this. It is tho increased cost of living. Rents have boon rising of late. In Hyde Park, where most of our business Is carried on. flats rent at a rate of about $J0 a room. A clerk cannot afford that, but lie will not go to a cheaper neighborhood neighbor-hood Instead, he will go -to a hotel or boarding house, whore he can live more cheaply among Ills own class of people." |
