Show Mf ITEM Ten Will He Established in the Citv During Encampment Week. ARRANGEMENTS HAVE BRK.V ALREADY MADE FOR EIGHT More Drinking Fountains Are to Re Installed in the Town. Continued reports from the chairmen of committees which have to do with the entertainment, of (ho Grand Army veterans hore August 0 to 14, indicate that tho care and attention which tho old soldiers will receive will bo fully up to the standard of encampments of the past and may possibly eclipse some of the entertainment provided at other cities. Certniulv nothing is being omitted omit-ted which it i's thought will conduce to the comfort of tho veterans, and competent committees arc planning every ev-ery day new means of giving tho veterans vet-erans the time of their lives, A groat feature of the affair will be the rest parlors provided for tho veterans vet-erans in different sections of the city. Theso rooms aro being provided by Mrs. Cliarlcs Crismon, chairman of the rcstroom committee, and she reports that six of tho ten required arc nl-roadv nl-roadv arranged for. These six will bo located at the Lion house, Odcon hall, on North Temple, the old information bureau on the Temple grounds, the old Whitney hall at A street and Second avenue," the Fourteenth ward , school house on First South, between West Temple and First West, and the Eighth ward school house, just across the street from the City and County building. It is intended to secun- quarters also at Third South and Main strocls. Second South and Main, and First South and Main streets. Place of Ease and Comfort. Each of the rest rooms will contain easy chairs, sofas, electric fans, flowers, flow-ers, and in fact, all tho essentials of a quiol resting place for the veterans who mav go there when thoy are tired, to got nut of the hot; sun and to get away from the noise and crowd of the street. Each rest room will be provided with a Hod Cross nurse to give medical attention at-tention when needed and there will also be at least two attendants. In ense of any serious sickness tho ambulance will bo called from the emergency hospital, hos-pital, in the Boston building, and the person removed to one of the regular hospitals provided for their uso. A good supply of-lemonade, ice water and other lighl refreshments will be provided at all of the rest rooms. The rooms will be kept open from early morning until late at night and care will be taken that tho veterans receive every attention. Tho attendants will be drawn from somo of the most prominent prom-inent women of the city who will alternate alter-nate in attending the different rest rooms. It is intended that, no one person per-son will be on duty for more than one day during the week of tho encampment. encamp-ment. More Drinking Fountains. Tho matter of installing drinking fountains at different places about the city is in the charge of Cit3' Engineer L. C. Kelriey. Nothing hns yot been done towards their installation, but it is intended that there shall be plenty of them by tho time of the encampment. encamp-ment. Xuilierous comfort stations, provided pro-vided with toilets, wash stands and other necessities, will also be provided at convenient places about, the oity, and in addition, thoso in tho public buildings build-ings wil' probabh- also be used and signs placed on tho streets indicating where thej- can be found. Rooms for the accommodation of women and children will be provided at tho Castle Hall apartments at 251 South Main street. Tho Elks' club room will also be used for the entertainment enter-tainment of any one who wishes to come in and rest, whether he is an Elk or nor. This matter was decided at a meeting somo lime ago. Cooper, chairman of the committee on public comfort, is giving a good deal of attention at-tention to tho matter and those accommodations accom-modations with the rost rooms is calculated, cal-culated, it. is thought, to prevent as far as possible any undue fatigue on tho par' of tho veterans, and reduce to the minimum the dangers of over-exertion which is always a sourco of difficulty at affairs of this kind. |
