Show OREGON'S MARBLE HALLS ' WILL BE PRESERVED WASHINGTON, July 2-1. Oregon eaves, "tho marble halls of southern Oregon," are to be preserved bv the government against the vandalism and the convenience of private owners. President Taft has just signed a proclamation proc-lamation making them a national monument. mon-ument. The government will improve the facilities for reaching tho caves. The caves are in marble, relieved re-lieved here aud there by delicate stalactites stal-actites of alabaster whitoness. Many small streams have been found at different dif-ferent elevations in the two miles of caves already explored and larger bodies of running water are to be heard in pits so far unmeasured. |
