Show Something for Borah to Ihsnk About REXBURG, Ida., Feb. 5. Wo noticed in an Issue of the Bolso Statesman of December 22 an article entitled "The Blow That All But Killed Father," in which our Senator Borah states that legitimate le-gitimate settlers in tho stato of Idaho arc belncr hampered by United States special spe-cial land agents, who have been sent by order of the Interior department for the purpose of seeing whether settlors wero living up to tho law or not. The opinion opin-ion Is generally expressed in Ibis community com-munity that Senator Borah was entirelv misinformed by some parlies, from this section of tho country, as to tho true facts In the case of the land agents who have been in our midst several times. Tho honest settlers of this county aro moro than satisfied with tho inquiries and investigation in-vestigation now going on by the special agents, as they want tho shady actlona of somo men who have obtained land under cover to be brought to light. In order that tho people of the state mav know the Irno facts in tho case the following fol-lowing Is the true condition of tho land on the bench adjacent to Rexburg, and If our Hon. Senator Borah Is anxious- to know anything about the dry farm lands In Fremont county. It would bo to ills advantage to mako a personal visit and ascertain tlio true facts. Tho following is a true statement concerning con-cerning the. Rexburg bench Jand: Undor Moody canal known as tho Wobster & Woodniansee canal, taken from Moody creek at a point In tho northwest north-west quarter of section 1. township -I north, range -11 east, this Is tho only avnlhibln source from which water can bo had to Irrigate what Is known as tho Rexburg bench land which comes under this system, containing 10.000 acres of land. Tho only available waters of Moody creok are the flood waters, as prior rights of low water arf claimed and held by other parties In lower lands. Length of Moody crock ditch from point of diversion di-version to reservoir is about seven miles. Kcservolr Is located in sections lit nnd SO. township 0 north, range 11 east. Tho reservoir res-ervoir Is made by an earthen embankment embank-ment placed across a hollow or sway of ho lund. Measurement of Moody crek was ordered by tho court of the sixth judicial district of Idaho, and one-fourth of said water was to be given to Webster Web-ster & Woodmanspc nnd three-fourths to be given to Martin Games, July 15, 190ii. Measurement of water at tho head of tho canal was 05.20 miners lilies on July 15. lOOCi on tho same date tuu measurement of tho water which runs In tho reservoir, reser-voir, at' the reservoir, was 12.58 miners Inches, which is less than the amount of water which enters at tho head of tho cunai Waters from Canyon creek and Lyman creek under certain permits havo not been appropriated, and no work has hoon done on either of those projects. Tho Canyon crock project is impracticable by , reason of a long tunnel which would bo of great cost and would not justify thv system. Tho watershed of Lyman creek Is Insuinclcnt to justify tho storing of said water, and tho Webster & Woodinan-seo Woodinan-seo company never did, and does not now. own ono Inch of water In Lvmau crook or Canyon t'reek; nor does the Enterprise canal, now In course of construction, cover any portion of tho Rc.vburg bench The land which comos undor the above mentioned systems Is non-desert in character, char-acter, us the farmers In all parts of the Rexburg bench raise all kinds of vegetables, vege-tables, such as potatoes, beets, cabbage onions, tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, etc Jhcy also raise oats, from fiO to 70 bushels bush-els to the acre, and wheat, from .10 to n0 bushels lo the acre. Tho above lands would not have been taken by anv ono If they had to depend on Irrigation, as all ot tho lands above mentioned raise good-paying crops without Irrigation, and there is no sourco from which water can be obtained for Irrigation. Water for cull-nary cull-nary and domestic purposes can be had from 250 lo COO foot in depth, bv drilling for same, as three or four of these wells havo boon drilled on homesteads, and an In successful operation nnd being now used by Webster .t Woodmansco and others, each well hnvlng from twentv to forty feet of good water. The articles appearing In tho daily papers purported to be written by Senator Sen-ator Borah, claiming that tho rights of bona tide cntrymon aro being Interfered with by United States special agents, ho far as this locality Is concerned, arc not true.
