Attorney General Major, in a lengthy statement issued today, relative to the motion for the modification of .'judgment .'judg-ment of Iho ouster Mind by the Standard-Oil company, said, be does not deem it necessary to" file any additional replies re-plies in the supreme court to tho suggestions sug-gestions of the Stnndard Oil attorneys. The moiiou'of tho oil attorneys, ho said, simply asks for clonioncy in the modification modi-fication of the docrce. The statement says: "The proposed modification is not an offer to do business in partnership with tho stale, but that t no .iudgm'ent of ouster bo modified and the matter hold in abe3'ancn and in the meantime permit tho company to do busiucss under the eye of the court of the state. If the court desires, it could, under tho modification, modi-fication, proceed at any time to render a judgment of final ouster. ' f Under the modification as proposed, the stato could control the price of thc( products nnd prevent the eompniry from recouping its losses in fines from off the people. "In the last, nnnlysis it prcscuts a question of whether or not tho welfare wel-fare of tho state, its business and its citizens would bo benefited to au extent, ex-tent, warranting a court of chancery to undertake, the supervision.
