Show ENORMOUS ADVANCE IN PRODUCTION OF MINERALS Thn forthcoming volume of "Mineral Resources of the United States, published pub-lished bv the United Slates geological survey, will show a remarkable Increase in tho value of tho mineral production of tho country since the bo ginning of the new century. This Incrdasn Includes all of the principal mineral products, rep-rojcnllng rep-rojcnllng nn annual output of over $2,000.-000.000 $2,000.-000.000 an advanco of more than 100 per cent In less than ten years. Commenting on this phenomenal Increase, In-crease, George Otis Smith, the director-of director-of the survey, stated It it3 being yot the more impressive when compared with the recent optimistic statement of tho secretary secre-tary of ngrlctilture to the offect Hint taking tak-ing 100 us the basis for tho valu of the farm products of 1S00. those of 1007 had Increased to 150 and those of 100S to IfiS. Tho figures for the mineral production produc-tion of 100S aro not yet available; but. assuming tho value of the product of 1S09 to bo 100, as in tho case of agriculture, agricul-ture, that of the 1007 mineral product was 204. or more than double. Tho following table shows tho relative growth of tho values of farm and mineral min-eral products In tho United States since 1S09: VALUES OF FARM AND MINERAL PRODUCTS. Tear. Farm. It would seem that tho country as a whole has little fear from occasional slight business depressions. While these havo their disquieting effects, of course, upon manv Industries, they cannot produce really serious results, from the national standpoint, when such stable factors in the nation's life as agriculture and mining min-ing show such great material development. develop-ment.
