Show JAPANESE IMMIGRATION TO AMERICA DECREASING WASHINGTON, Jan. 20 Japanese immigration to America, is decreasing. According to official reports received by the immigration bureau, the falling off for December. 1007. was 2.23-1, as compared com-pared with December. 1906. This is regarded by the immigration authorities authori-ties as proving that the immigration restrictions placed upon the Japanese last spring arc proving effective. Whilo tho immigration of Japanese during the past eight or nine months has shown an increase over tho corresponding period pe-riod of last year, it is believed by the 1 immigration "officials that the tide of immigration of Japanese to this country coun-try has been checked. No doubt is oppressed by officials of the department of commerce and labor that the Japanese Jap-anese government is using every possible pos-sible means within its power to prevent pre-vent the coming to this country of Japanese Jap-anese laborers and coolies. |
