Mrs. Lester McLean of Chicago, who is an organizer for the National com-mittoo com-mittoo of tho Young Woman's Christian association, loaves for Chicago this morning, having been instrumental whilo hero in setting on foot the pros-cnt pros-cnt flourishing association of that order, or-der, now installed at tho old Anderson homo, on Second East street, botweon Second and Third South streets. Of the work in gonoral, Mrs. McLean said: "I came lioro to asrfist. tho association associa-tion in organizing nnd getting into working shape, and we have been successful suc-cessful beyond our oxpectntions. Our mnin aim was tho affiliation of this association as-sociation with tho World 's Committee of Y. W. C. A. work, nnd that has been effected. We, here, are now a part of the whole, and are working under tho national constitution. "Tho aim now is to dollnc and give form to methods of association work. Tho local work is governed by a board of directors, who have under'them tho four salient features of tho work in tho religious, educational, social and financial finan-cial dopartmonts. All theso are fully and formally organized and working. " Main Purpose in Viow. "One distinct purpose 1 had in viow was to bring beforo the churchos the true monniug and scope of national work, and then of tho importance of lo- I cal work. It was very gratifying to mo lo find tho clioory, holpful support of all tho churches, and to havo thoir support to tho final completion of tho work. "Some friends gavo largely to tho work, and with the many smaller gifts T am happy to say tho institution is now on a firm financial basis. "The homo is only a month old, nnd yet wo have soventoon young women inmates, who board and room horc. Wo wore filled from the beginning, and wo now havo a wuiting list. Thoro is no charity in this work, each girl pnying $'1 to $5 per week for board and room, according to the location of her room. In fnct, the domnnd for rooms is so great that wc turned to tho Collcgiato institute next door and ubo sovcral of their rooms, the occupants boarding hero. Location Advertised. "Wc have installed our Btation cards in tho depots, and all who come soo nt onco where we arc located, and como direct to us. All who havo come havo told us of seeing the card, and wc aro gratified. Theso cards arc now sought out at depots all over the land, nnd lone women know where to go. "Wo keep ono room open always for tho chnncc wayfarer, and no woman is turned away from our doors. By preference pref-erence wo help young women, as our work is for thorn, but wc do what wc can for all women who como to us. "We havo general lunch room, in which we offer to young women who arc engaged in city work a place whore they may come nnd eat lunch a la enrte, from H coni8 to 25 cents. They may bring their own lunches and piece them out from cur menu. We have also a reHt room, where the girls may lio down nnd rest till timo to return to work. Employment Bure.au. Wo maintain an employment bureau bu-reau for all who care to patronize- it, and have been instrumental in helping several. 1 "Our Sunday afternoon service nt 4 o'clock is open to all women, and is well attended. Our 'home' evening is Thursday, when wc give musical recitals reci-tals and havo a pleasant programme "Wc have engaged the Gordon academy tennis grounds for the year, and any girl may use this ground for the small charge of $1 per yenr.
