June lO.-Whlle Officer David Watson was patrolling the streets In the Hret ward, shortly before 4 o'clock this morning, he was approached by a man who cdmmsnded Idm to give up his money Instead of doing this, the offirer drew his revolver and ordered the outlaw to surrender. The holj-up quickly mounted a bicvclo 'J"1 T,(jln8 off opened fire on Watson. Five bullets were fired bv each of thu men. At this point the offirer withdrew to tho rear of a near by house and r loaded his pistol, and when he returned the outlaw out-law was riding away quits rapidly Word was at onco sent to town" end arrangements ar-rangements wero made to follow the hold-up. Officers Peterson and Watson nnd Sheriff Sher-iff Charles Malr are now out nfter the bold outlaw and word Is expected at anv time that he is captured. When last seen be was riding his whorl down ihc Rio Grande railroad track, appurentlv heading head-ing for Salt Eakc. Mrs. James M. I-ockhart, who has been visiting In Salt Eake for the past month, returned home this morning. Mr. and Mn John W, Codger returned to the Park this morning affrr a short visit In Salt Lake. An aecident which win necessitate the closing down of the mill for several days occurred at tho De.ly West yesterday afternoon. The driving rod of the electric engine, whllo In motion, through some flaw In the steel, was broken, as was also the engine. As It will be necessary to send to New York to get th parts re- 1'ilred to repair the broken machinery there Is b strong possibility that the whole workings will be closed until the work of flxinc th engine is completed. It Is rumored that nn effort Is being made by the Ijaly West company to gel their electric power from the Ontario company, and If this can he done the mine will not be closed. |
