Show four hunor:d years hence. This paper will be Inclosed in the corner-stone of the first Masonic temple In Utah, which Is to be laid at Ogden today by that sublime order. Tn the expected order of events, the box will be opened four hundred years hence and Its contents revealed to the eyes of posterity Unless the spelling reformers are permitted to mutilate the language past all recognition, the people of that generation will he able to know of the dally life of this generation. It is fascinating to look forward to that four hundred years, to think that lh world will progress as much during dur-ing the period oncoming as It has done since the discovery of America, a little over four hundred years ago. What stupendous changes will have been wrought! All the physical mechanism Of human labor ivlll have been changed. The steam engine unknown four hundred years ngo, may he unknown, un-known, except In museums, four hundred hun-dred years hence. The dally newspaper, newspa-per, non-elstent four hundred years ngo, may be non-existent four hundred hun-dred years hence These two things have been more effective Influences upon the physical progress and the mental enlightenment of tho world than any other two. They may give way to Improvements quite as remarkable remark-able as themselves. And widening out from our consideration of these, and comprehending the changes In edifice, In lress. In habit. In thought, and In the relation of men to community life; we may well apprehend that, na our fort) irs of the fifteenth century would not recognize our world of today, so we would be equal strangers to the world of our descendants four hundred hun-dred years hence. There Is a solemn thought which steals Into this contemplation. What are we doing, each of us, to make the life of the generations better, more exalted of purpose and more Just In achievement. In order that we may thereby repay nur debt to the generations genera-tions gone? As we live under the conditions con-ditions largely made for us, so we create cre-ate conditions which will affect our successors. We are building the heritage of the men and women of four hundred years to come. Thoy will look upon the results re-sults and they may be able to trace those results to their source In our successes or failures of tho present age. Subjecting ourselves to the thought that we have individual responsibility re-sponsibility to them, conscience demands de-mands and wisdom directs that we shall so perform our work as to establish estab-lish the high principles of that exalted order which marks Us growth and prosperity In Utah by the dedication Of 8 Masonic temple today.
