Show Babe Pound Dead in Children's Home Apparently Healthy Infant Dies Suddenly Sud-denly in Crib Near Mother's BedsideCoroner Bed-sideCoroner to Investigate. Justice Dana T. Smith will probably hold an Inquest this morning over tho remains re-mains of the Infant daughter of Lydla Nelbert, found dead early yesterday morning morn-ing In Its mother's room at the homo of the Utah Home Finding association In Earl's court. Tho child was born last Wednesday, and at the time of Its birth and since was considered In good health. When the case was first reported to Justice Smith, It looked as though a crime had been committed and tho county physician, Dr. E. W. Whitney, was asked to mako an Investigation. With Dr. Varian, who attended tho mother when the child was born, Dr. Whitney made an examination of the remains late yesterday yester-day afternoon, but was unablo to determine deter-mine the causo of death. He found no evidences of violence, and whllo unable to say Just what caused death, Is of tho opinion thnt tho llttlo one died from natural causes. Tho circumstances surrounding the death of the child, so far ao known, are theso: At 4 -30 yesterday morning the baby was uneasy and fretting, and tho attendant at the homo gavo It to tho mother to be fed. In a little while tho mother called tho attendant; said the child was asleep, and asked that It bo put back to bed. Tho child had been sleeping in an Improvised Im-provised crib at the foot of Its mother's bed. Tho nurso laid It down carefully on ono side, partly uncovered tho face and went back to bed. Just beforo daylight Mrs. Stlckney, In making her usual rounds of tho houso to sco that all was well, went to tho crib and found tho child dead The case was reported to Justice Smith as quickly as possible, and he (will decide this morning whether or not an inquest Is necessary. |
