Show 'NEWHOUSE'S EXTENSION. Denver & Intermountain to Be Built to Idaho Springs. Special to The Tribune. DENVER. Colo., Jan. 30. Tho Denver & Intermountain railway is to be extended to Idaho Springs, a distance of between twenty and thirty miles, according to the present plans of Samuel Newhouso, owner own-er of tho road. The levels havo been run, and all that remains Is for construction gangs to get to work. Grading. It Is declared, de-clared, will begin oariy in tho spring. The reason for the extension Is the discovery of a rich ore body In the Newhouse tunnel tun-nel at Idaho Springs. The Saratoga vein was recently tapped, nnd this, together with the prospect of cutting other rich veins, led Newhouso to determine upon tho extension. Ho wants to haul his ore over his own rails. The road will be electric and tho power will ho secured from a plant to be erected on Clear creek, water power being used to run the dynamos. Tho road will competo with tho Colorado Colo-rado & Southern, "but thero Is no present sign of opposition from that quarter. Tho now line will start from Golden. All tho hauling practically will bo down grade, so far as ore Is concerned. However, a good passenger traffic Is one of tho possibilities of the new venture. |
