Show I CONCERT IS ENJOYABLE. Held's Baud Performs Before a Large Sunday Crowd. Held's band gave Its usual Sunday concert con-cert to a flno audience last night at tho Grand. A popular programme was performed per-formed and tho most favored numbers received re-ceived warm applause. The Anvil Chorus from "II Trovatore" vaB evidently the most appreciated. It received the best treatment at the hands of tho band and had to bo repeated. The Pilgrim's Chorus from "Tannhauser" needs "somo more rehearsing. During part of this selection the wood wind was ahead of tho braES. This was evidently a new piece for tho band and tho rendering can bo Improved upon. A "Ragtime Overture" Over-ture" by Holzman was very enjoyable. It was well played by the band and went with a fine swing. A caprlco by Orean Smith was also very melodious. The effective "Robespierre" overture by Lltolff was very good. But a pleco called "Trombone Misunderstanding," by Chambers, Cham-bers, should havo been omitted from tho programme. It Js not music and gives verv Httlo pleasure. Miss Ellen Thomas of Ogden was the vocalist. |
