Show URANIUM AND ITS RADIO ACTIVITY A special from Montrose, Colo., "to tho Nows of Denver says nil former experiments experi-ments with uranium oro havo been cast In tho shade by Thomas McKcc, tho pho-tographor, pho-tographor, who, on a. flftoen-mlnuto cx-posuro cx-posuro of tho ncgatlvo plato to tho now oro called montrosolto, has developed a plcluro showing a koy and Chlncso coin. On a thlrty-mlnuto oxposuro a plcturo of a roso leaf and copper cont wcro developed. devel-oped. So charged with light Is thl3 now discovery that Mr. McKce's experiments havo demonstrated that ho can mako X-ray X-ray exposures with It In IS hours. A pockotbook, soaled with a pass koy Inside, was given six days' exposure, but tho plate was over-exposed. This now oro has been named montrosolto montroso-lto by Its dlscovoror, who claims to have been tho first to ascertain Its qualities, and thnt by an accident. It Is dark In appcarnnco, much resembling lignito coal, and containing quantities of decomposed matter resembling tho powdor obtained from burnt graphite. It Is vory light In weight and Is always found In uranium deposits. Hurroundcd by tho carnollto oro, which latter oro Is nothing moro than an cxlde of uranium. Mr. McKco mado a test last night in a dark room with a lloroseopo on this montrosolto ore, and said tho ore showed light spots much resembling re-sembling phosphorous specks. Tho demonstrations mado by Maynard Blxby of this city somo time ago afforded results and lossons In radio activity equally as interesting. |
