luwlll be strange Indeed If I they do not hit upon some solution before another dry season shall cot In Col E R Holmes was elected chairman chaIr-man of the committee of Ility and l jjftld on taking the position that tho water yupjjlj was a subject of tremendous tremen-dous importance plant should be made to supply l future population of 250000 and that the coming generations which would reap the benefit should be required to bear the sweater burden of expense Time present deficiency in the water supply ho went on is a minor matter mat-ter and can easily be met by the adoption adop-tion of the meter system and enlargement enlarge-ment of the present reservoir storage and which movement seems lo me Imperative Im-perative taking probably about two years to complete by I which time a larger supply system should be well under way As I understand It the nrcient jeur will give to the city a clear Income of probably JWOOO to 75000 which is fully the cost of installing the meter system then Instead of charging charg-ing the properly owner the whole coat at once let him pay an annual rental equal to the Interest and cost of maintenance main-tenance The city water system should be selfsustaJmng and but little more and all the time It should be kept In mind that the smaller property holder I should have his water supply at the minimum of cost the great manufacturing plants should not be overtaxed In the use of water this should also be considered and how lo do these things on u liberal scale lo tie subject now before us Your present rates when bused upon the meter system Js 10 cents per 1000 gallons I gal-lons for tlw small user of water and I upon the graduated scale according to quantity which seems reasonable And I any plan that may be proposed must take Into consideration the health of the city as affected through the water I It uses City Creek Emigration Par leya Canyon the Cottonwoods and tho deeper artesian wells arc by analysis said to be healthy while Utah lake and tho surfacp wells are very Impure the former from the alkali It contains and the latter from surface drainage There are other subjects that are important Im-portant ns your surface
