Manifested Lchl Sept 20Thc most enthusiastic county convention ever hold In Utah county convened In Lehl today Republican Re-publican victory at the coming election fills the air an evidence of which was the manner in which nearly all the offices of-fices to be filled were contested ora great contrast when compared with I similar conventions held heretofore The ticket nominated Is I the strongest ever placed before the people of this county and with the harmony that cx Ists after the lights are over the Democrats Dem-ocrats may well despair The feeling of all Is that the temporary victory gained last year must be made permanent perma-nent for all time The delegates were In the best of humor The Republicans of Lehl kept open house for tholr vlsl ora and received a unanimous ote of hanks for their entertainment Of the 254 delegates entitled to seats all were present except eight Stephen L Chipman of American Fork was elected temporary chairman After the appointment of the usua committees the convention adjourned till 2 oclock The permanent officers chosen were Chairman James Clove of Provo first Icechairman Mrs 1 L Cummings of Sprlngvlllc second vicechairman Vllllam Beddowa of Salem third vice chairman C F Westphal of Pleasant Grove secretary George F Shelley of American Fork first assistant secretary secre-tary Edward T Jones Spanish Fork second assistant secretary Mrs appreciated ballads and while the convention was waiting fer the report of the commltlpo on esolutlons the Pyne and Boshard Brothers quartette worked up high en liuslasm with some of their Inimitable our Allegiance to the principles of the national Republican platform of 1000 and also Indorse the atform of principles adopted at the State convention at Ogden on the llth nstant Wo also fully Indorse the Administration Ad-ministration of President Theodore Roosevelt We Indorse the splendid admlnlstra Lon of the State of Utahs last Legltf lature and Ho wise and businesslike work We heartily commend the work of the Republican county officials and especially the payment of a debt of 4000 bequeathed to the present officials b y a recent Democratic administration also the payment of a judgment against the county amounting to about 53000 on account of the unlawful approprla Lon of the properly of a private citizen by the last Democratic County Com nlssloncrs In the face of theses addl ional expenses the rate oC taxation has not been Increased We especially commend the expendl urcs on the public roads of the county coun-ty t and the wire and economical administration ad-ministration of the general affairs of the county Resolved That In view of the fact that questions concerning Irrigation and water rights are becoming more vnd more complicated and legal decisions de-cisions to a great extent unsatisfactory unsatisfac-tory we demand that the next Lcgls Inture talc the subject under consideration consid-eration and enact such laws as will protect owners In their Individual ownership own-ership nnd also the pouree of supply of the watercourses of the Stale Resolved That we demand that the Legislature of this State enact such I railroad laws as may be necessary to protect the people against etfceslve passenger rates and freight tariffs to provide against unjust discrimination between different points to compel the railroads to pay for all stock they kill 1 or Injure and crops they destroy by fire without the entire burden of proof being placed upon the farmer who has sustained the loss Reeolvod That we demand that the Legislature enact more Just and equitable equita-ble lawn foi the assessment and valuation valua-tion of taxable property i THE COUNTY TICKET I The convention took n rcccso at 7 oclock and reconvened an hour lller l and It I was after 10 oclock before the ticket wan completed A county committee com-mittee consisting of two from each precinct In the county was elected and 3 > Ir Charles DeMoisy of Provo was elected as county chairman
