Show WORKED POOLROOMS I Man Accused of Wire T aping a-ping Taken In ARREST MADE ON A TRAIN J O IrTeLaughlln n WellKnown I Young Man of Butte Will Have to i Answer Charge Made by Western Union Telegraph Company of Tapping Tap-ping Their Wires and Then Telephoning Tele-phoning tho Information Into Butte Helena and Anaconda by Which Poolrooms Were Beaten TRIBUNE SPECIAL Butte Mont June 2SJ C Mc Laughlln was arrested late this evening even-ing while on his way Into Butte from Grcsson Springs a station on the Butte Anaconda Pacific railroad and about half way between this city and Anaconda McLaughlIn is charged with malicious mischief but n more serious charge Is to be flied against the prisoner Monday McLaughlIn It is charged by the Western Union Telegraph company has been tapping their wires and securing Information with which to heat the poolrooms In Putte Anaconda Helena and other places That he has made considerable money out of the games Is declared to be a certainty by those Interested It Is rure that the Butte and Anaconda Ana-conda poolrooms have suffered heav ily dulnb the past few months because be-cause of a systematic wiretapping scheme being worked by unknown bcll people peo-ple A careful watch has been kept but the guilty ones have on each occasion oc-casion succeeded In covering their tracks nicely I I Is said that McLaughlin tapped the wires at a point midway between Grcgjxm and Stuart and then telephoned tele-phoned his Information to Butte and A naconln from the public stations a Lone L-one or the other place That he has frequently tapped both Htations In alleged al-leged by the officials to he a Tact which they can easily establish The game by which the wires have been worked to the detriment of the poolrooms has cost tin operators much money and tonight they admit that they have lost heavily on occasions during the past several weeks The I poolroom proprietor admit further that they denied the truth of stories previously circulated as to the wiretapping wire-tapping scheme because of their desire de-sire to throw the workers off their Uolr and thereby secure their ar restMcLaughlln McLaughlin was brought to Butte but as the chnrprc was sworn to before an Anaconda Justice of the pence he will be taken there for trial on Tuesday Tues-day afternoon Tonight tho prisoner secured the signatures of D J Hen nesy H L Frank and A F Bray three of Buttes most prominent business busi-ness men to n bond In the sum of 1000 and lie was given his freedom McLaughlin Is a very well known young man and has resided In Butte for many years where his reputation han been of the best |
