Show Mr Bryan in the North American Review insists that the election was not necessarily conclusive on any question ques-tion That Is possibly true but It was wls conclusive on one man and that Is that tat he never can be elected President of tho United States When n candidate for President generally runs behind the State tickets all over the country i should be conclusive that the wrong man was a candidate The Democrats have leaned on Mr Bryan twice and the result has been the keeping them out of the hearing of the ofllcc of Pres dent for eight years dr Byran is not very modest but his friends say ho Js honest and 1 ho has any real sense of fairness in his soul it seems to us that his proper position right now would be to frankly say to the people of the United States and especially to the Democratic party I believe aa firmly in the principles I advocated as ever but now Lam simply a soldier In the ranks and beg my countrymen to believe that under no circumstances will I be a candidate in 1304 That would give his party leaders a chance As It Is all the indications int to the fact that in 3004 he will bo a Populist candidate hoping to carry with him enough Democrats to make with then the-n ce1 Populist vote n chance to win That is really what he did this year and he Is FO sanguine In his belief In himself that we believe he will try Jt again with a similar result |
