Show RESCUE HOME DISTRESS I I Friends Fear Work Must be 1I Abandoned 1 I II I ARE GREATLY DISCOURAGED I I After Mrs pnddock tho Pioneer In I the Field Died it was Thought Her Work Would bo Carried on to Success Protests of Citizens Against Locating the Home Near Them Have Caused the Trouble Chance for a Noble Deed Pato of Home to be Decided Tomorrow I i After months of fruitless effort to I obtain a house wherein to establish a Ire I-re lue home the board of directors of tho Rescue Home associallon have rP1 Iiictantly decided to call a meeting of the general association and ask to be relieved as a board Almost unceasingly i unceasing-ly I week in and weak on I have the i members of tlio board sought suitable quarters for tho home but in vain and I now In utter discouragement they have 1 decided to lay the matter before the association and report how utile have i been their efforts This conclusion was I reached at a meeting held yesterday afternoon at the homo of Mrs AV A Nelden Somo years since a noble woman took up this work and carried It on for a I time almost unaided Night and day she labored for the poor unfortunates I meeting and overcoming obstacles seemingly almost insurmountable until at last weary of body and sick at heart 1 at what seemed Indifference Mrs Cornelia I Cor-nelia Paddock died Then and then only were time Christian l people avpkned to the Immensity of the burden which she had shouldered almost alone A meetIng meet-Ing was held and Christian men and I women volunteered their help toward I parrying on the work which Mrs Paddock Pad-dock had inaugurated and carried on for some lime PROTESTS AGAINST HOME At first the Indications were that the home would be successful but later there came protests against Its being maintained In a certain neighborhood Then new quarters were sought but before the premises could be taken poss pos-s of a storm of disapproval from property holdera in the vicinity was created and the board of directors relinquished re-linquished their claim to that location Still another and then another location was found but as in the other cases petitions were circulated protesting against the home being placed In the quarters selected So It has been each time until now It seems there is I but one thing left for the board of directors to do CHANCE FOR A PHILANTHROPIST And right hero Is chance for some wealthy citizens of Salt Lake to call down upon themselves the blessings uf hundreds of Christian men and women In the city to say nothing of the redemption re-demption of perhaps many a young girl I from a life of shame On South State street according to a member of the board 6f directors a suitable house five acres of ground a cow chickens and all the paraphernalia of a small I well ordered farm can be purchased for 5000 The place cannot be rented at any price but the owner Is anxious to I sell at the figure stated From past experience the members of tjje board feel sure that no place in thiecity can be rented and say that unlessa home can be bought thr work must be abandoned aban-doned So said one of the most earnest workers In the cause last evening even-ing we ar booing that ammo nf Salt Lakes charitable men and there arc many of Ilium will open his heart and his purse and help us out of this trouble It will be an everlasting pity if the work must be abandoned for it 1 1 certainly Is necessary here WILL BE DECIDED TOMORROW A meeting of the general association of the Rescue home will be hold in theY the-Y M C A parlors tomorrow morning at 1030 when the matter will be dls cuFsed I freely 1 1 All who are interested arc earnest I requested to attend this meeting that a thorough understanding of the whole mailer may be had by all |
