Show THERE WAS NO STRIKE. A Break in the Machinery Stops Operations Opera-tions on the City Road. The streets presented a most singular appearance ap-pearance this morning, owing to the fact that not a car was in operation on the City company's lines. A rumor was at once started that a big strike was on, and as that seemed the most reasonable explanation, the public generally accepted it as the fact until later in the day when it became known that the machinery at the power house was out of order. A Times reporter called at the company's office in the Hooper building, and was informed by Mr. Wells that the line shaft was sprung-, and operations had to be suspended while in was being replaced with a new one. The repairs will be completed com-pleted tonight, and the cars will be running as usual tomorrow. The stoppage caused a great deal of inconvenience, in-convenience, but of course was unavoidable. |
