Show SHE TALKED TEMPERANCE Part of the Time, and Stale Her Husband's Pension Money the Remainder. Chicago, June 27. The pension officers here have discovered that Mrs. Alice L. Taylor of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, the wife of Dr. John S. Taylor, surgeon in the Twenty-j Twenty-j third Illinois infantry during the late war, j who has been confined in various insane ! asylums in Illinois since '69 as an insane j pauper, has been drawing and converting to her own use his pension of $72 per month since July, 1874, receiving an aggregate of $16,564., none of which has been used for his benefit. Mrs. Taylor, who was brought here, has compromised with the govern- meut by the paying of $8100. She is well known in Iowa as a temperance worker, htr writings on the subject having a wide circulation. |
