The New York music ball on Fitty -seventh street and Seventh avenue was thrown open to the public today for the fir-t limn. The walls are of speckled brown 1'ompeian brickwork and terra cotta, aud rise to the height of 113 feet. In the building are three halls, made to accommodate 3000, lib() and JilO persons, each with separate lobbies nnd entrances. The equipment of Ihe building cost $','"i0,H00, the one item of electric lighting alone costing j 93.1.01)0. The total cost of the building was ifT,."00,UOO. The main entrance, tinder a round arch into a vestibule of marble, is an exceedingly handsome oue, and a'l the work, from the foundation founda-tion to the cornice of copper and the I roof of Spanish tiles, is of an unusually I elaborate character, and entirely suit-1 able for the purposes for which it is ! designed. |
