Show MINERAL RESOURCES general statement and mention ol of mining districts all the resources mentioned so go far ar are nothing compared to the mineral resources A look at the map will show that there are ranges of mountains running parallel to each other north and south about ten miles apart in each one of these ranges are from one to live mining camps tributary to the proposed route beginning with will salt bait lake city I 1 will alvo give an account of 0 the resources of 0 each mining camp and also information as to other minerals mineral of value to a railroad SALT the south shore of the great salt lake produces enormous quantities ot of salt alt annually the supply being limited only by the demand the water 0 of the lake which Is ID now about 20 per cent salt Is let into basins on an the shore of 0 the like lake or to ig pumped into them and Is evaporated by the heat beat of the sun eun by august augurt so that a cres of oc land are covered with a crust 0 of f fall fait several inches deep thin salt palt la is slacked lacked ft up on the higher ground ready for market the annual product of the hie lake 1 Is about torn tons but could b be increased one half to three fourths of a million tons per annum it if there were a 11 market for or it A railroad into mining campb a greatly increases the demand since it leads lead to abst ll 11 erection ot of many mills wid nd leaching plants which consume large quan quantities titles for or leaching and ores at oat least rine tenths of oc all our salt lt Is used in tills this way many carloads carlo adB of 0 table salt nall arn are also aleo produced on the lake shore and shipped out sine since this road KOC goes nearest dearent the lake it should get mot ot of the hie tonnage of the salt ial produced on the shore bhore south bouth of 0 the lake WARM SPRINGS aPI the next resource la is the warm springs at Grants grantsville ville there are some homr twenty or thirty of thera them all clustered together they will be ba on the he line as the roadbed broadb a must go through the lower part of 0 them these springs have a temperature front from blood heat beat to considerably above it ill the water carries carrie about 3 per cent salt some bom sulphur and associated minerals arid and Is much resorted to tor for many diseases this should become a great sanitarium as the climate Is delightful tho the town Is within reach of tile the salt bait air of the lake the drives are good in every direction tho the town la Is admirably drained the fruit Is 13 fine the mountains are arc accessible and beautiful being only about throe three miles awa away Y arid and the proximity to the railroad Is such cuch that ct a person can go into the ell city Y in an hours time and Is within only about twenty minutes rids ride 0 the great bathing resorts grantsville GRANTS VILLE DISTRICT this mining camp lies directly back of 0 Grants grantsville ville in the heart of the range and about six miles from rom the town the chief mine Is the third te term 1 m this li Is a lead silver mine ahl which c h has been worked quite extensively ten the ore la Is low grade and ami so BO must bp be worked at 0 a both in freight and working charges it Is impossible to a estimate wh what a t tonnage this can furnish as the upper ore bodies have been worked out while the lower ones are not yet opened up it can be safely said bald that this will furnish an occasional carload of ore tor for the present there are many other claims in this camp but all are u undeveloped no tar far all estimates of carloads are on the bass basis ot of twenty tons per car LAKESIDE DISTRICT tills this district lies northwest of 0 grantville in the low range the lake on the west went anil and Is a low grade erode lead camp the lead so tar far in carbonate cArbona tc carrying a few ounces in silver and going front rom 40 to CO per cent lead it Is therefore impossible to haul it to the railroad and make it pay now but w with till VL railroad to it it should produce at tie the b ginning beginning about a carload it a day mittle while with development develop mont it a ii hould houll give several carloads tills this district will be about tn miles orr oft tho the road mail but a spur can ho be run to it over levei level ground at a slight blight cost PASS DISTRICT this lies on an the west bide of tho the abut range and just south couth 0 of the overland road and to Is at the point where the proposed road will turn westward after boing up skull valley this Is a new district and therefore undeveloped but the ores so tar far found carry gold cold and resemble rt the gold fold ores at Iter mercur cur in this cue case should the tha caroo camp turn out well it will consume eon sumi large quantities of coal and che chemicals mf a a and nd lumber for or the tha mills arid and v will g give t a high grade freight for or shipment out DEATH CANTON DISTRICT th this is lies some tn ten miles south of the a have above district in the same range but here called tho the went range this is an ott oll camp in which much work has bee been udone done the ore Is also alao low grade and like both the camps mentioned above la is tn ili limestone the ore v mill ill go EQ 10 to 61 60 cent lead and 10 to 60 ounces silver the gangue being mostly oxide of 0 iron the tonnage front rom this camp cannot be because of the uncertain ore bodies so tar far found but it will be for this the present an occasional carload should this be br bri i come bomea a great camp a spur ebur about ill teen miles long lone would be built up the valley and over the divide with a client blight grade and no dim curties to the toot foot of the canyon in which the mines are arc located WEST TINTIC DISTRICT this lira lien some distance on off the road further south some ten miles beyond death canyon but would warrant the extension of 0 the spur to it there are it bout about ten claims or mines that could produce ore the ore Is low grado grade lea lead d with ith silica gangue the scotia 1 Is the largest mine and has been worked corked extensively rt it has produced ed tons of 0 ore and lias has as much more on the dump and in the mine it Is too low grade to haul by wagon but with a railroad would concentrate and all ot of the concentrates would be shipped the railroad grade to this camp would be built down the valley and be easy and with little grade OMEGA DISTRICT tills till lies about fifteen miles south of 0 the line at the mouth ot of the old river bed and about twenty miles west of death canyon there Is 1 but one in mine tie here which has produced ore this to la the rockwell mine it la is said to have a four foot vein of galens galena going about 41 44 per cent lead and a few ounces in silver this could ship a carload ot of ore at the start and several more per day after a little development this Is about the only mine in the region which I 1 have not visited WILD HORSE DISTRICT this lies about five miles ore oft tile the line just west of the old river bed the ore Is 14 elli clous carryl carrying ilig silver in quartz tie there are many claims but so tar far not much ore has been produced should this ever pay a branch line could be built into the midst of the camp NIt without hoUE hut but it Is so 80 near that the wagon haul would be b slight blight DUGWAY DISTRICT this lies about forty miles west of johnsons Johnson 8 pass fans in skull valley the heart of the cam camp p being only three miles orr oft the line to which a spur could be built should it become it a heavy producer os as it is ID likely to be this lies in the north end of I 1 the he dugway ran manfro in lime there ore are many claims in 1 this camp but very few have hadl had much work done on them the elevation Is but little over loot 1000 ft feet above the desert the arinel ai claims are th the sll sit er king which carries 80 30 per cent lead and 10 ounces silver to the ton anac and can all pr prodico e duca ab about out a carload of ore per d day Y th the a yellow w J jacket a c k e t an and 1 i a ls which ch ado kittre it have ave n 91 d e r a b 1 e quantities n 0 of low grade load lead ore alth ith an oxide of 0 iron giL tongue ngue the they run about 15 per cent kad 10 ounces silver allver and high in iron though lh ro is I 1 considerable ore run 40 0 o to 90 0 per cent lead these claims could produce one to two carloads car loala pt per day thi thet ore Is very valuable as a flux other claims of value in this camp aro th ho buckhorn which milich produced about 2000 worth or 01 ore find and then pinched out but it Is 19 very likely thit that more mew wid and larger ore bodies mill ili be found lower down tho the cannon mine has haa produced considerable load ore with a L ganglia of but tile tho possible tonnage Is 1 still uncertain there are many other claims moro more or less ore and taken all together could produce probably a carload ot of ore per day I 1 should put the minimum tonnage of 0 dugway at two and tho the maximum at tour four carloads at the start after a years growth it ought to be eight or ton ten carloads carload GRANITE MOUNTAIN DISTRICT this lies just north of 0 dugway in the isolated mountain which gives the water tor for the other camp the ore la Is galena with till a silica gangue the grade is rather high in lead low in silver and the quantity Is not large so far but little development work has been done this camp lies about four our miles north of the road over level ground DETROIT DISTRICT this lies in the south end ol of the dugway range and about twenty miles fro m the line the ores are arlous arlou copper lead gold and iron tile the camp has been worked lor for its t copper 0 O till lately A smelter was run on Us its copper ores tor for some time and prod produced u ced many tons of copper but waa down because of the great cost of fuel which had to be hauled some home twenty miles tho the copper claims are several and known az aa the howard mines these would again become productive with cheap transportation transport aton but a branch line should be built to tap them the gold property pro porty known as the ibex hai ban ha i developed lately a large body of gold ore lit in silica and Is being worked quite extensively ten this athla oro ore must be shipped to some convenient milling milliner point to bo be worked the ironi iron ores orea aro are very extensive and axe aro going about 60 per cent iron there are two large bodies chich could produce any quantity that would be required for fluxing flexing or other purposes tho the tonnage of copper would bo be about a carload a day and the gold ores nearly the same the iron tonnage would depend solely on the demand thre are many smaller claims in tho the camp which I 1 have hav e not mentioned at all but over ten of them show ore soroa some eight miles no north rth of detroit proper Is an immense lm nene outcrop of eruPt AvO rock which has given as high as 10 40 in cold assay should this ever prove valuable the tha tonnage would be great FISH SPRINGS DISTRICT this Is a comparatively new camp caknip but haa produced ill clr most valuable ore in the region it lien about ten m miles iles due southwest of dugway or f fifteen miles by tho the road it lie lies a a bout about 1000 2000 feet above t the h e valley and on tho the west slope of t tho h e low fish springs runge range it Is irr in limestone tho oro ore Is 1 mostly carbonate of lead with a little iron almost no bileca or base metals it assays essays ao 20 to ISO ounces ounce silver and 40 to 60 pir pi r cent lead according to the grade I 1 the these theo o mines have been steady shippers since the beginning there aie about ION 1000 tons of forty ounce ore on the dumps ready for or shipment t tilt ch will not pay y by the long wagon haul now required d the principal galena amburn rind emma in R th taft ft ore bodies aro narrow and h have been e worked to the depth ot of sno f fret pet and set get hi a little att richer with depth the capacity capacc of tills this camp callip mill bill ho be bout about two ty ca carloads rhoads per day with the present development WHITE CLOUD DISTRICT this district lies iles on oil the very north end ot of mount blount meriall and about ten mills miles east ea qt 0 of Mil muncy licy just josl past east pa st ot or it Is ft a large lares salt lake which has produced hundreds hundred of 0 tons ot of rait fortar for mills farther arther west the tonnage ronnae from this source wilt will depend entirely on n ill tha demand creat created ed tor for salt by the building ot of mills along the route at white cloud the line will pas pass within liia thon than one half mile of the lower mines the orea aro are of 0 two kindi gold and lead tile the lead er ores aro are not 5 3 ct dc lc velo perl enough t to a enable one to estimate the th tonnage but they are ralena galena ores the fold ores are low trades grades but InAm in immerso menso quantities they are free milling sille foug ores tho the veins are several tho the largest one being twenty feet wide while there are several that are over three feet wide uld e these ores will not stand mu much c h t transportation but in must bo be hauled to muncy or witter water must bo be brought to red reduce ice them on the ground in any case considerable onside rable revinue revenue would id accrue irom front the mines there Is little development w work done since the ores are exposed over quite an ar area e a on the surface A shaft of seventy feet has been sunk in one place the track can be laid over these claims without any extra grade it iq 1 haril hard to estimate I 1 the tonnage from this camp a as much uch will depend on the way the ore Is reduced should it be reduced on the g ground ro und the tonnage will be bu bullion 11 ion ou outward and fuel chemicals and supplies inward should it be reduced of ced at muncy the tonnage would be nu five to ten carloads per day tor for ten miles DISTRICT this 11 lies directly north of white cloud on the opposite side of the road in a spur from the deep creek mountains sometimes called the glencoe mountains the ores are sili siliceous clous in granite mostly tile tho claims are somewhat scattered the roost or 0 them being at glencoe proper while the mother lode lies iles some four miles east with several other claims of various ores tho the ores of glencoe proper must be hauled ty to the main line at a point some five miles from muncy blaney or a spur well would id have to be built about ten miles to the mines with a 4 pet per cent grade for part ot of the way the mother lode could bo be reached by a short spur from white cloud the vein of 0 this claim is thirteen teet feet wide and Is sill clous like all the other ores 0 of the camp it Is opened up over loo IOD feet deep Is low grado grade in silver but of immense size it Is not over ove ailder six miles from white cloud tills this ore 5 should hould be lea beached leached cheel elther either by bringing w water ater down domn from t the he mountains above or by carryl carrying ng tile tho ore to mun muncy y the ores of glencoe proper should C be leacha leached oni on the ground except the high grade ores which will stand shipment to the shelters smelters sm sin elters the vel veins ns are six and will average each three feet thick two of them are opened over feet deep and mott most of them 25 5 feet feel deep the ore m will III average 40 ounces silver to the ton this thin pait of tins the camp could produce two carload of forty ounce ore per day now and probably more ANTELOPE SPRING DISTRICT this has ne cr been opened much and the quantity and grade of the ore Is still unknown but there Is a heavy arid and some galena ore has been taken takei 11 out that run ran high in silver r this lies a little southwest of glencoe on tho the west side of antelope valley and would be reached by a spur of about eight miles from the main line running toward glencoe glenco aurum DISTRICT this is not the name ot of the district but it Is better |
