Show THE SAVING OF FLOUR GOLD t in this issue of the mining review an article on A new method of concentta tion is published and its application to the saving of flour gold t old is suggested many inquiries have come in regarding this feature of the new process and it would seem that investigation along this line might prove highly profitable when the inventor mr A P stanley macquisten was questioned regarding the matter he said he had had no time to demonstrate the ability of his hij i machine to save fine gold but that he could see no reason why it should not prove as I 1 successful with gold as with the sulphide minerals As is stated in the article the minerals VV are carried off on the surface of the water 4 i and conducted to a separate compartment S the chief difficulty in saving the flour gold of the snake river and other placer fields has been this same question of 3 i and hence the suggestion that the tube pro cess might be utilized in saving the fine gold particles which have so far escaped by the other methods there have been numerous machines designed for this very purpose but as yet yei they have not proven highly successful one scheme tried some years ago was most unique and perhaps as successful as any large rafts of charcoal were sunk in the shifting bottoms of the river and allowed to i remain for some time they were then raised and burned when the gold was recovered in the retort A combination of this crude method and the tube process has kuc suggested c 1 a possible solution to the old difficulties cul ties the tube machine to be used in separating the gold from the gangue material a and charcoal or other porous material as a means of collecting the metal to save the flour gold in placers and particularly in those of the snake and colorado rivers where it is quite abundant but fine and blakey has become a problem of 01 technical as well as of economic importance t the completion of a satisfactory machine to awaited with 11 interest do this work is in engineering and mining circles the progress along this line has been very rapid of late and the accomplishment of 0 the task ought soon to be realized |
