Show OSCEOLA GOLD PLACERS mining expositor ely nev charles A walker G F boreman dr R H richardson of ely and charles W gaby of osceola are fortunate in being interested te rested in a lease on some of the virgin ground in dry gulch near osceola which is famous for the production of many nuggets in the past and from which they believe they will add considerably to their bank accounts some time ago they secured a lease on part of the holdings of the Amalga amalgamated maled nevada mines and power company in dry gulch close to where nuggets of gold worth from 1000 to have been found but which had not been extensively prospected and was practically virgin ground A shaft was started in the hope of locating the original channel of the gulch now deeply covered by was wash h of a later date where the coarse gold and large nuggets were found in the adjoining claims the shaft recently struck the rim of the old channel and the first pan of the dirt that was washed netted and from four pans the average running about the same the total yield was nearly 6 in coarse gold the shaft was then continued following the side of the rim down and when the bottom of the old channel is reached the lucky leasers leaders expect to find some very rich pockets of almost pure gold the discovery of the placers about thirty years ago created considerable of a rush at the time and a very large amount of gold has been taken from the diggings the largest nugget having been stolen but afterwards most of it was recovered and the value found to be in the neighborhood of numerous other nuggets ranged from 1000 to 2500 it has always been thought there would be other large ones found in the claim now being worked but the company owning it would not lease the new company is following a different course and it will probably result in largely increasing the gold output for white pine county this year |
