Show THE GOLD DUST MINE special correspondence the gold dust mine is situated three miles west of leesburg idaho on a quartz vein which stretches in a comparatively straight line across country for a distance of ten miles at different points along the entire length of this vein there are several companies doing prospecting work and meeting with more or less success the gold flint outfit whose property adjoins that of the gold dust on the same vein shows an enormous body of ore of good quality in the tunnels already on that property the gold dust mine has been actively worked since the occupancy of the present company until about two years ago when the management thought best to temporarily suspend milling operations and devote a few months to more extensive exploitation of its property in anticipation of opening up a better quality of ore in the meantime the company has determined the quality of its base ore and also the chemical process best suited for treating the same these facts established the company proceeded to install the chemical plant th the e tanks and incidental machinery being now on the ground ready to erect the company also owns a first class stamp mill and to all appearances is well equipped for the successful operation of its property the recent development work which has resulted very satisfactorily to the company was entrusted to the care of mr G 0 carlson a salt lake mining man of wide experience in quartz mining who commenced drifting operations in the direction of what appeared to be the location of good ore and after going about feet a rich and extensive body of ore was struck up to date there are sixty f feet of this material in sight with no apparent signs of its deteriorating for some distance yet the writer witnessed the taking of an average sample from the breast of the drift which when assayed showed a value of 1023 per ton the highest value obtained from this new body of ore is per ton this is one of the leesburg quartz mines which did not contribute all of its free gold to the enrichment of the placers thereby impoverishing itself it has now been conclusively clu demonstrated that there is a large body of ore of good quality in the gold dust mine will pay handsomely when treated THOMAS A MUNRO |
