CHIEF PITT RETAINS THE TITLE Much discussion has been caused by Chief of Police Pollee Pitts latest order to the members of ot the force It was as follows I To the Men Hereafter all orders ordera from me will come through Captain Burbidge and all men asking for layoff la off through sickness or otherwise must be made to him Captain Burbidge will handle all the affairs of the department and will have Jurisdiction over all matters therefore all men must report to him TOM TO D PITT Chief of ot Police Pollee Many of the policemen after reading this were left with the impression that Chief Pitt had delegated his authority to Captain Burbidge When asked about the matter last night Captain Burbidge said that such an Impression was erroneous The order said Captain Burbidge modestly modest refers only to minor details of the department Its scope Is narrow It gives me no more au authority authority than I have had up to the present It means that when tie the t e chief is II 1 busy bus in his office the men can come to me for leaves of absence and on matters of department detail
