Show 1 Tlio Opposition to Do Korea. Chicago, 12. Tho opponents of bishop elect De Koven have prepared . a memorial, addressed to the standing committee of the several dioceses of the Episcopal church in the United States, stating the reasons of their 1 opposition to the confirmation of Dr. De Koven, which aro briefly aa follows: fol-lows: First, because that he is in our judgment justly liable to evil report for error in religion, that his soundness sound-ness in tho faith is at least so far doubtful as to form an impediment to his consecration in tho meaning of the canon herein; second, that his consecration would, in our judgment, judg-ment, be disastrous to the church; third. Dr. De Kevon was not elected elect-ed a bishop by the convention of the diocese of Illinois, agreeable to the rules fixed by the canons of that diocese. Each of these points is elaborated at length. The main feature of the third reason, the irregularity irreg-ularity of the election, being two votes, those of tho chancellor of the dioctse and the chancellor of the cathedral, were illegal, those officers not being entitled under the canons to vote. Dr. DeKoven has not yet signified his acceptance or non acceptance ot the episcopacy. |
