Show Theatre. Last night, for the benefit of Miss Rose Bain and Mr. Willie Gill, the fine drama of "The Sphinx" was produced, and creditably played throughout. The part of Blanche De Chelles affords scope for a style of acting which but few ladies have the ability to embody. Some parts Misa Bain rendered fairly, but taken as a whole she fell very far Bhort of giving the author's conception of the character. Mr. Gill, as Arthur La Jardie, had a fine part, which he rendered quite satisfactorily. The other parts were generally well played. The piece is an excellent one and well worth the patronage of the public. pub-lic. "Tho Sphinx" will be repeated this afternoon for the matinee when the ladies will have an excellent opportunity oppor-tunity of seeing this great play. This evening being the last appcaranco of Miss Bain und Mr. Gill, they will appear in "Madge of Elvanlee," which is a splendid piece for Saturday night. It will be followed by the laughable drama of "The Toodles," in which Mr. Gill will appear as Toodles and Mrs. Belle Douglas as his amiable spouse; the other parts being in the hands of Messrs. Lindsay, Lind-say, Forster, Marden, Taylor, Miss Delhe Clawson and others. These will form the strongest tills of the week and Bhould draw full houses. |
