Show aOI.U DISCOVERY NKAR PA V- SOSi, EuiiEKA Citv, Feb. 22t S12. Editors Herald : What will come next in the shape of discoveries in Utah ? Some time during dur-ing the summer of 1ST 1, George S. Rust, Joe Bates and others discovered some quartz on what is known as West mountain, in tho vicinity of Vayson. A short time since George S. Rust had some assays made which give good results re-sults in gold and silver, but with their limited stock of information in mining, they were unable to determine where the ledge or lode was. Having some acquaintance with major M. 1). Harmon, Har-mon, they wrote him to como at once. On the major arriving at tho spot, the course of the lode was soon traced by this well-known prospector. In two days we had traced the belt the entire length of the mountain, which is about six miles, running north and south, and from every appearance, it is one of tho richest gold aud silver belts of mineral ever discovered in Utah, carrying no base metal. Tho lode averages about thirty feet, lis wall on the west is quartzite; that on the east being lime. Every appearance appear-ance of wealth surrounds this mineral belt, with water convenient, and the line of the railroad will run contiguous to it. Yours, G. S. R. |
