Show Police. The Doctor's reception yesterday was largely attended, the colored element predominating, being drawn there by the presence of Thomas Martin, colored, who had been cited to answer to the charge of drunkenness drunken-ness and disturbing the peace, with assault and battery added. The investigation inves-tigation made matters look rather black for Thomas, and the judge "knowing no distinction as between citizens" fined him just the same as he would "the white trash." The fines amounted in total to $25. W A Johnson, for a drunk, with disorderly accompaniments, was assessed as-sessed $8. This seems very cheap compared with the amount taxed against friend Martin; but perhaps Johnson's indiscretion was not of such a luxurious character as Martin's. |
