Wo havo sinco learned tho following pai'tiouliirM of his capture and subsequent subse-quent escape. l.oo Morgan, iZms I Geo. Hamilton, whoso proper name is George Kllsworth, was captured by 0. P. Uoekwell, who knew him and had followed and watched his movements for about threo weeks, on tho head waters of Cherry creek, iu west Tintio, on the 17th of May. When captured ho had on his person a considerable amount of greenbacks and gold, as will appear from tho following certiG eato made at tho time: Wkst Tintic, Cherry Crock Settlement, May 17, 1871. AVo havo this day counted the money taken olf tho person of Goo. Signed Jonas Kiiekson. Pktku Kukkson. U. I. Miller. 0. P. Rockwell. After tho capture Rockwell and one of tho Erecksons started with the prisoner pris-oner for Rockwell's house at Government Govern-ment Spring llaneho, en route for this city, to deliver him up to the propei authorities. After traveling some twenty miles, Ereekson left them. The two traveled the balance of tho distance, dis-tance, about five miles, the night been dark and heavy rain falliug. The prisoner pris-oner was quiet and made no motion as if to escape during the drive. On arriving ar-riving at the rauche, wet and cold, supper was had and both sat down to the fire. Rockwell being very much fatigued and thrown olf his guard hi the apparent docility of tho prisoner, fell asleep, but was soon awakened by tho shutting of the door, and jumping up found the mau was gone. The night being dark pursuit was useless. Mr. Rockwell tracked him next day for some distance, and heard of him at Bennion's Pass, in Rush Valley, where men had given him water and gave a complete description of him: from there he was traced to tht Jordan ford, on the old road from Salt Lake City to Camp Floyd, nee which nothing definite has beeu heard of him, although quite a number num-ber have been engaged in the search. As this man is supposed to have gone east the following description may prove of service to officers: He stands five feet nine inches, about thirty-five years of age, light complexion if not exposed to the sun, very prominent forehead, large, light blue eyes showing a good deal ol white; . dark brown hair and dark sandy moustache and side whiskers, one tooth out next to front teeth; nose large and inclined to Roman; figure stooped. He was very foot sore, his feet being much blistered, through excessive travel on foot. We understand that Porter feeh rather chagrined at having a prisoner escape while in his custody, and has himself telegraphed to different points, offering a reward of $1,000, which offer we believe is still out |
