Show TEEATMENT OF THE KANSAS VOLUNTEERS The condition of the Kanfeas volunteers volun-teers at Camp Richmond San Francisco Fran-cisco has been a scandal and an outrage out-rage They were ordered from their I own state when they were In no sense prepared to go They were without camp equipage without uniforms without with-out arms without food almost without everything At Denver they were compelled com-pelled to buy food themselves having no rations Ever since their arrival at Camp Richmond their condition has been truly deplorable they have been little less than objects of charity certainly cer-tainly of commiseration Somebody IS to blame for this either state or national authorities and the blame should be located Had the American people read of a lot of Cubans Cu-bans being treated as these Kansas volunteers have been they would have been Indignant beyond expression while the chances are that congress would have taken cognizance of the fact 4 The United States have gone to war for the sake ofhumanity and clvlliza I tion and here they are treating some I of their own soldiers who are to wage I this war in an Inhuman and barbarous manner It is a most outrageous thing I and should be Investigated f i |
