Show TBtNSftR Of THf UDRAY I I ALL NEGOTIATIONS WERE CLOSED UP YESTERDAY City Council Jfay Act In the Matter of Providing Quarters For the I Library Thanks to the Masonic Order Committees Appointed All the negotiations pertaining to the transfer of the Pioneer library to the city were closed yesterday and only one more formal step remains to betaken taken until the trustees of the city library and free reading room come into actual possession of thE Pioneer associations 10500 volumes The formalities I for-malities to be gone through are merely the paying over of the money from the tax fund now available and the assigning of suitable quarters in the joint building by the city council for library and reading rooms At this evenings session of the council it is expected the matter of library quarters quar-ters will be settled and i so the work of moving and cataloguing the books will be proceeded with as rapidly as possible I is not anticipated that there will be any delay in making the new library serviceable to the people YESTERDAYS BOARD MEETING At yesterdays meeting of the city trustees the transfer of the Pioneer Library associations books and other effects to the city was closed by ratifying I rati-fying the action of the special committee com-mittee appointed to take charge of the negotiations with the donors The report re-port of the committee was made by Major Hill who presented for approval ap-proval the vouchers for 1000 to the Board of Trade Building corporation for back rent of the Pioneer library and for 400 to Miss Chapman for librarians salary The vouchers were approved and the president and secretary sec-retary of the city library board were authorized to certify to the city treasurer treas-urer their correctness The form of agreement made with the Masonic grand lodge whereby the city trustees assume the obligations of the Pioneer association and pledge the maintenance fied of the free public library was also rati fiedThe The board then tendered its vote of thanks to the Utah Grand lodge of Masons for their generosity in transferring trans-ferring the control of the Pioneer library which cost nearly 25000 to the city for less than 1500 COMMITTEES APPOINTED A discussion of plans and methods to be pursued in the management of the new librarys affairs was had and at its conclusion the following committees com-mittees were named On Catalogue William Igleheart Mrs J 11 Dart Mrs Rachel Miller On Purchase of Books Major H CHill C-Hill Mr Igleheart and Miss Emma McCornick On Transfer and Installation of the Pioneer Collection Trustees Igle heart George D Pyper and Mrs Miller ler > lerFor For the purpose of having a formal report on the matter on his return from a six weeks trip in the east Major Hill was requested to investigate library methods and management and the best book purchasing systems in vogue in eastern cities Prior to the formal meeting the trustees qualified by taking the constitutional con-stitutional oath of office before the city recorder This formality had been overruled but all previous actions of the board were ratified The board Webber will meet again at the call of President |
