Show WORK OF O THUGS rOCATfllO FRANK MCUNEi LYING AT TE POINT OF DEATH Was Eobhed and Beaten Into Insensibility Insen-sibility Offenders Run Down By Blood Hounds Geyser Arrested rested rsted < i Special to TheHeroT < uUl iPocalelToIdar Dec i Frdnk McCune1 i is lying ina very1 critical condition at the county hospital as the result of an attack at-tack made upon him at his cabin early Sunday morning The assault was made by two men who aroused Mr McCune about 3 oclock and asked to see him When he opened his cabin door he was seized by the ruffians and beaten into insensibility and remained in this condition con-dition until about 10 oclock when he was discovered by his friend Mike McLaughlin who called to see him frc McLaughlin at ones notified the city officers and Sheriff OMalley and Chief of Police Ellis took the case In hand and began a search The bloodhounds recently recent-ly purchased b Sheriff OMalley were brought into service and led the officers to the east side of the town and stopped a the Wood River saloon where the officers arrested R E Sourwine and J E Lowe The latter is better known in I Montpeller and Diamondvilifc as Geyser Jack These men are strongly suspected and the officers are piling up evidence of their guilt McCur > s cabin shows signs of A hard I struggle and the walls are besr > > tterf > o with human blood whUe the personal effects of the occupant are scattered about the floor and the trunk upturned which is said to have contained aoout 2o before the visit of these ruffians was made Robbery and possibly murder was the object as nothing of alue remains and Mr Mcvme was evidently left for dead A piece of gas pips was found with which the unfortunate had been pounded nearly to death One ea was split and a wicked wound was inflicted on the head and one of the eyed put out I Mr ife Cuno survives he may bo able to identify his assailants |
