Show BOSTON rifEACifRS mS QVERY Mormons Propose to Revise the Utaht Constitutionand f > Kill QffJIonL1tmon 14 Scriocis i c 1 Special to The Herald Bdston Dec 2iRev John A Hamilton DD of this city one of the editors of Congregational Work and the secretary of the Congregational Educational Ed-ucational society has just made a special investigation and report on the status of Mormonism in which he says that it has been the hope of many that statehood in Utah would result in the essential ending of Mormon domination domi-nation but it is becoming more and more manifest thatsuch hopeis not wells grounded The church finds in the new order of things a means most favorable favor-able to the enhancement of its political influence he says Apparently already al-ready it has come to be the practical balance of power between the two great parties The present constitution of the state in many of its features is said to be strongly obnoxious to the Mormon church This opens the way for attempts at constitutional revision and that such attempts are already meditated medi-tated cannot says Dr Hamilton readily be doubted The authorities of the church are even pow making this more and more manifest through the press The church leaders the report goes on to say are not slow to see that the continued establishment of nonMormon schools must be prevented and that as far as possible every essential condition to life and prosperity must be withheld from those already in existence To accomplish the latter every effort has been put forth to secure the predominance of church representation repre-sentation in the personnel of the various boards of instruction So far as the state university is concerned the movement has been successful Today the management of this university is essentially Mormon To effect the same in lesser schools seems also to be determined = |
