Show STRKfS AND AR lTRATlrJS I LABOR SITUATION AMONG COTTON COT-TON OPERATIVES Factions Arrive at a Compromise But Their Joint Proposition I Rejected By Employees Fall River Mass Dec 27The latest lat-est proposition of the operatives and the answer of the manufacturers have I again left matters in this city in rather Ian I-an uncertain condition although by I many the outcome anticipated is an acceptance ac-ceptance by the operatives at leastfor the present of the reduction The proposition I pro-position is understood to be a compromise compro-mise between two factions in the conference con-ference committee on favoring an immediate strike and the other postponement I post-ponement of all action until March I I differs from what the manufacturers when they first heard of it expected I and in a request that the reduction be i halved that is 5 ½ per cent instead of 1119 until March 1 when another conference con-ference is suggested to consider the questions prevailing at that time The answer of the manufacturers decided de-cided upon by the committee at a meeting meet-ing this afternoon is a rejection of the proposition so that there is nothing for the operatives to do but accept or oppose op-pose the reduction In view of this condition of affairs it is now improbable improba-ble that the conference committee will make any reduction to the textile union but will allow them to act for themselves them-selves The conference committee will meet again tomorrow night and on Thursday night general meetings of the weavers spinners and carders will beheld be-held for final action The other unions will meet for the same purpose before I the close of the week N I |
