Show I PACKERS FOR THE YUKON Government Relief Party Passes Through Pocatello Special to The Herald Pocatello Ida Dec 27A party of packers 15 In number under the leadership leader-ship of G Yo Knight who have been em I porcd by the government at large sal ries to aid in getting supplies to the suf ferers in Klondike passed through Pocatello Poca-tello yesterday They had with them four cars of pack mules and of mule a car government govern-ment supplies The party was given an especially fine run over the system of the Oregon Short Line and they were preceded pre-ceded one day by a car of blooded dogs which they will take with them from Vnrrnii U P n1 = liT h t + n + Ia u < UUaaJ perilous country Lander Wyo Dec 27Boss Packer McFarland of Fort Washakie passed through Lander this morning with four enlisted men of the Ninth cavalry and 24 pack animals en route to Rawlins at which point they will take the train for Vancouver barracks Washington where they will join the government relief re-lief expedition and sail for Alaska The men were armed with carbines and revolvers re-volvers and are physically able to stand the vigor of the Alaskan winter being selected as the strongest men In Fort Washakie garrison and especially fitted for the hard work they will have to do They carried only such supplies as would be required to take them to the railroad |
