Show POLICE MATTERS STOLEN HARNESS AXD SADDLES RECOVERED IJY SHLYXXOSf Six Saddles and n Set of Harness In the Lot Tlie Hoot of the Recent Warn HnrKlnries Two Pct Bur STlarles Reported Two Little Chi dren Stray Away uml Arc Found liy the Iollc1 Colored Vomn Siiiushes the Windows of the Jail Police Officer Dick Shannon who is becoming a terror to barn burglars exercised his wits again yesterday with good results He recovered a big batch of stolen property which included in-cluded six saddles and a set of double harness He found them in a cache on State street but was not so successful in locating the thieves The property he brought to the city jail where the owners called and identified i The set of double harness and an English riding saddle were identified as the property of C B Durst the grocer Bailey Sons proved the ownership of two doublecinch cowboy addles The son of R K Thomas identified two more of the same kind of saddles and a member of the state militia named Taylor identified an army saddle as belonging to the troop of cavalry THREE PETTY BURGLARIES Complaint was made to the police yesterday that three petty burglaries had been committed the evening before At one place three pairs of shoes were taken and at another a quantity of cut flowers The police are confident they know the thief and believe he does not live far from one of the places The California restaurant vn < 3 en J Calfornia In tered some time during the same night and the cash till robbed of 980 20 cents was found in the drawer in the morning This is the second or third time the same thing has happened at this restaurant TWO TOTS GO ASTRAY Two little tots the children of a Mr Busby who lives at 54 Franklin avenue got lost yesterday afternoon and had anice long walk before they were found In the meantime anxious parents spent a very uneasy afternoon after-noon The children a girl aged 5 and a boy of 3 are sent to the free kindergarten in the old St Marks school building opposite the police station When they were dismissed yesterday afternoon they took the wrong road home and as a consequence did not reach thereat there-at the accustomed time The parents became alarmed and reported the case to the police and a watch was kept for the tots by the officers but nothing arrived was heard from them till dinner time At that time Dr J Milliron who runs the drug store at the corner of Seventh East and Seventh South streets telephoned in that two little children had been picked up on the walk nearby verymuch tired out and unable to tell where they lived The police knew however and they were soon in the arms of their by this time very badly frightened parents SMASHED THE JAIL WINDOWS A colored woman said to be the wife of one of the soldiers at Fort Douglas who gave the name of Annie Franklin slept in rather chilly quarters last night and all because of her own bad temper She got drunk early in the evening and proceeded to smash the furniture at the house where she lives at Thirteenth Thir-teenth East and Third South streets The police were called in and she was taken to the city jail Her indignation knew no bounds when she was turned loose in the womans ward and she started in to demolish the jail She seized a water bucket by the bail and knocked out the windows of one cell after another as fast as she could get to them The police did all they could to keep her quiet but as the only thing that would have had any effect on her would have been a set of stocks in which she could not have moved they locked her up in one of the cells where she had done all the damage she could and allowed her to remain there to cool off under the gentle influence of the night breezes I |
